The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
