He was given the cheque on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was chosen as the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received funding support in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued several small stages in the South East, by placing them under local control.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "shares" in the properties.
