Not every autumn fright journey needs to scare gamers. A Unique Collaborative Solo Journey

Known as a solo collaboration puzzle game, Gloomy Eyes unites a living-impaired child named Gloomy and a mortal child called Nena as they start an mission to return daylight to their gloomy realm. They look is similar to stylized dolls blended with the figures from a Laika film. Their fair-toned and baggy-eyed aesthetic borrows heavily from the appearance of Burtonesque cinema, and the story is a classic all-ages adventure. The duo develops an unbreakable bond over the course of the game’s multiple stages as Nena tries to prove to her religious guardian that, look, possibly the undead can be friendly.

Innovative Puzzle Mechanics

This unique term comes about from the game’s world-based challenges. When Gloomy and Nena encounter each other, players alternate between the recent allies to overcome obstacles and progress through the stages. As an undead, Gloomy cannot pass through the illumination of a lamppost, while Nena will get snatched up by idle zombies without a beam is directed on them.

They have to cooperate closely — well, you’ll use them in tandem — to finish levels. Nena may move or temporarily shut off illumination to open routes for Gloomy, while the intellectually curious boy will use his zombie strength to move items in the environment, revealing paths for Nena.

Immersive Environment Creation

The brain-teasers remind me a little of The Gardens Between, in the fashion the areas are suspended, diorama-like designs that the camera pans around in sync with your characters. Gloomy Eyes’ settings are very enjoyable, guiding the companions around a fair and through a haunted house, amid other locations. There’s a “diorama view” option that allows you to view from afar and turn the areas, both for enjoy the visuals and look for routes that may not have been obvious.

Slight Challenges and General Gameplay

Here lies one of the few problems with Gloomy Eyes. Comparable to other titles with a static view, occasionally it's confusing where the characters may or may not travel. Gamers could require to randomly encounter a multiple different objects to figure out which ones are usable, as it’s not always intuitive.

Nonetheless, those minor obstacles don't hinder of a eerie-adorable good time. Gloomy Eyes is relatively brief, with about several hours worth of challenges. Later levels integrate subtle sneaking and dynamic sequences with the challenge completion, as Gloomy Eyes advances to a fulfilling — and somewhat surprising — conclusion.

Release and Summary

Players shying away from the terror of fear-inducing releases won’t want to miss Gloomy Eyes. The game is out on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, and is currently on sale for a quarter off on game marketplaces.

Gloomy Eyes is out now on multiple platforms and delivers a delightful option for players seeking autumn enjoyment without terrifying moments.
